Student Athletes + Privatization

Privatization has everything to do with money, raising tuition, and upholding respective brands. Me being a Rutgers student as I am sure many other students experience see the money that could be shelled out to the general population as financial aid, goes into the building of sports teams. Stadiums, arenas, recruitment, etc. All of the tourist attractions that builds a brand, colleges need to keep afloat. When it comes to student athletes, think about the footwork they put into their recruits. High school prospects can be scouted at any time, as early as freshmen year. They give them full rides, free privileges, a 2.5 mandated GPA, all to be a part of that respective school's brand. So when a crime is committed in a smaller instance; the team throws a party and there's underage drinking, or a larger instance; penn state's child sex scandal, the school will do what it can to cover up the security of those involved. That is not only for the safety of their players, coaches or whomever else, but for the protection of their money and the worldwide compromise of their school's brand.
